Geotextile is a large, lightweight synthetic fabric whose fibres (mostly polyester and polypropylene) are bonded mechanically and chemically. It is used in civil engineering and agriculture to prevent soil erosion along riverbanks, hillsides, dams and slopes, and under roads to spread loads — for example in reservoirs, wastewater ponds, flood dykes, retaining embankments and road works.
